Challenge

Housing Navigator, a tech platform for finding affordable housing in MA, receives frequent, inbound questions about how to build similar portals in other states.

Solution

In partnership with Exygy/Bloom Housing, a “how-to” playbook that outlines the critical first steps for government and nonprofit practitioners to build an affordable housing portal in other states.

Challenge

Connect Homes, a prefab builder, will expand its operations to the Mountain West in 2024 and needs to understand the competitive landscape in these new markets.

Solution

A competitive landscape assessment of the main prefab players in Connect Homes’ six target markets, including company info on  product offerings, market share, and messaging.

Challenge

Build UP, an AL-based workforce development program, just won $3M in funding. The team wants support thinking through how they should use this capital to grow.

Solution

A growth and partnerships strategy for how the Build UP model will expand to new markets across the US, including a roadmap, goals and objectives, and plan for doing so.

Challenge

Arx, an automated real estate valuation platform, needed support thinking through their product roadmap and identifying ideal customer personas.

Solution

Conducted in-depth customer interviews to identify pain points and needs. Interviews  informed recommendations for product feature development and customer growth strategy.

CHALLENGE

The National Zoning Atlas seeks to create atlases for all 50 states to build a comprehensive and standardized database of residential zoning code data.

SOLUTION

Convened project and strategic support from key stakeholders to kick start the creation of the Utah Zoning Atlas. Continuing to drive forward the zoning code review for all jurisdictions in Utah.

CHALLENGE

Module, a modular builder in Pittsburgh, wanted to develop a strategic plan to outline how they would grow as a business over the next 3-5 years.

SOLUTION

Planned two days of activities to help the Module team create a 3-year growth strategy, roadmap, and execution plan. Attended the team’s offsite in Denver to facilitate the sessions.

CHALLENGE

Frolic, a community-centric developer in Seattle, needed support navigating the capital markets  to determine the right kinds of capital to raise.

SOLUTION

Conducted 10+ interviews with experts and compiled existing resources on funding landscape into a “guidebook” for Frolic and similar orgs on how to think about raising equity, debt, and grants.

CHALLENGE

Blackstar Stability, a fund focused on addressing predatory lending practices, wanted to  build a report that would illustrate its impact to current and future funders.

SOLUTION

Created an impact report that includes context on the predatory lending space and data which shows how Blackstar has positively impacted individuals by converting them to traditional financing.

CHALLENGE

Inherent L3c, a vertically-integrated homeownership solution for low-income Chicagoans, wanted to refine how they communicate the breadth of its impact externally.

SOLUTION

Facilitated multiple “storytelling workshops” to re-frame the company’s pitch and impact story. Resulted in a concise and effective fundraising pitch deck.

CHALLENGE

Impact Justice, a nonprofit that supports formerly-incarcerated people find stable housing, needed support evaluating which markets were a good fit for expansion.

SOLUTION

Conducted policy analysis of the criminal justice system and post-incarceration housing opportunities in key markets. Recommended neighborhood focus for each market.

CHALLENGE

ROC USA, a nonprofit dedicated to homeownership in manufactured housing communities, wanted to better understand the Utah market for future expansion efforts.

SOLUTION

Prepared a comprehensive list of all the manufactured housing communities in Utah. Ranked communities based on their potential to become a Resident Owned Community (ROC).

CHALLENGE

Building Talent Foundation (BTF), a workforce development program for residential construction workers, wanted to explore potential expansion to Utah.

SOLUTION

Created a market expansion playbook and identified three key areas where BTF can provide the most value in SLC – outreach at high schools, connections for smaller builders, and employee retention.

CHALLENGE

ESUSU, a platform to build renters’ credit scores, wanted to see whether universities would report on-time housing payments to help students build their credit scores.

SOLUTION

Conducted student survey at the University of Utah to understand student interest and worked with University administrators to understand what it would take to embed ESUSU.

CHALLENGE

Landed, a platform to help essential workers buy homes, was focused on market expansion and wanted to know whether Utah would be a good fit for their offering.

SOLUTION

Developed a strategy to help Landed enter Utah’s healthcare and education markets as well as identify ways to improve Landed’s outreach platform.
