Ivory Prize Terms and Conditions

  1. Introduction:
    The Ivory Prize is a national contest organized by Ivory Innovations, a Utah-based nonprofit corporation located at 978 Woodoak Lane. The purpose of the Ivory Prize is to encourage innovative and scalable ideas to address the challenge of housing affordability in the United States.

  2. Eligibility:
    2.1 The Contest is open to individuals over the age of 18 and organizations of all kinds that are working to ensure that high-quality housing is affordable and accessible to all.
    2.2 Employees, affiliates, and immediate family members of Ivory Innovations are not eligible to participate.

  3. Participation:
    3.1 To submit a nomination for the 2025 Ivory Prize, fill out the nomination form which can be accessed via Ivory Innovations’ website during the nomination window. Self-nominations are allowed. Nominations are open from September 3, 2024 to December 2, 2024.
    3.2 Submissions must be in English and adhere to the specified submission format.
    3.3 By participating in the contest, participants agree to grant Ivory Innovations a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute information about the participant’s operations and contributions to housing affordability for promotional and non-commercial purposes.
    3.4 After an initial review, selected nominees will be given the opportunity to participate in a short video call with representatives from Ivory Innovations. Ivory Innovations will then select 25 finalists. Organizations selected as finalists are required to participate in 1-2 additional calls and to provide additional information and materials as requested.
    3.5 No purchase or application fee is required to participate.

  4. Evaluation Criteria:
    4.1 Ivory Prize winners are selected through a four-phase judging process which takes place between January and May of each year.
    4.2 Ideas will be evaluated based on innovation, feasibility, potential impact, scalability, clarity of presentation, and responsiveness of participants.
    4.3 Ivory Innovations will review and score the submissions.
    4.4 Final selections are made by Ivory Innovations’ Advisory Board, comprised of veteran housing experts from the private sector and academia.
    4.5 The Advisory Board’s decision is final and binding.

  5. Prizes:
    5.1 The Ivory Prize awards up to three hundred thousand dollars each year to winners selected in at least each of the three areas of focus: Construction & Design, Policy & Regulatory Reform, and Finance.
    5.2 Top 25 finalists will receive recognition from Ivory Innovations and may be provided with networking, publicity, educational opportunities, and other forms of in-kind operational support.

  6. Requirements of Finalists:
    6.1 All Ivory Prize winners must participate in the production and filming of videos describing their contributions to housing affordability. Each video may take 1-2 days to shoot.
    6.2 All Top 10 finalists are required to attend the annual award ceremony. The exact dates and location of this ceremony vary from year to year. Contest participants are responsible for monitoring Ivory Innovations’ newsletter and ensuring their availability on the selected dates.
    6.3 All Top 25 finalists must agree to Ivory Innovations’ publicity rights agreement. All finalists must refrain from announcing their award status until after Ivory Innovations announces the same.

  7. Intellectual Property:
    7.1 Participants retain ownership of their ideas, but Ivory Innovations reserves the right to use and promote the winning ideas as outlined in Section 3.4.
    7.2 Ivory Innovations shall not be liable for any disputes arising from intellectual property infringement.

  8. Confidentiality:
    8.1 Ivory Innovations will take reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality of participants’ submissions, but participants should not include proprietary or sensitive information in their submissions.
    8.2 Ivory Innovations will not be liable for any unauthorized use or disclosure of participants’ ideas.

  9. Disqualification:
    9.1 Ivory Innovations reserves the right to disqualify any submission that contains inappropriate or offensive content.
    9.2 Participants found engaging in unethical behavior or attempting to manipulate the Ivory Prize will be disqualified.

  10. General Terms:
    10.1 Participants agree to comply with all contest rules and decisions made by Ivory Innovations.
    10.2 Ivory Innovations reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the Ivory Prize in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
    10.3 By participating in the Ivory Prize, participants release Ivory Innovations from any liability arising from participation or acceptance of prizes.
    10.4 These terms and conditions constitute the entire agreement between participants and Ivory Innovations regarding the Ivory Prize.

  11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction:
    These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of Utah. Any disputes arising from or in connection with the Ivory Prize shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Salt Lake County, Utah.
    By participating in the Ivory Prize, participants agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
