ARKANSAS: U of A Housing Innovation Center
U of A Housing Innovation Center
Fayetteville, AR
A federal grant awarded to the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas (U of A) will foster the development of sustainable, affordable mass timber housing prototypes for diverse regions throughout Arkansas. Mass timber uses state-of-the-art technology to glue, nail, or dowel wood products together in layers. It can be used as a structural alternative to materials like concrete and provides a more carbon-conscious option.
This federal grant, matched by U of A, will establish a Housing Innovation Center at the university.
This bold project addresses multiple critical issues in Arkansas, including the need for affordable housing, sustainability, stewardship of the state’s forests and environment, expanded employment opportunities and economic development.
