My name is Katelyn Johnston. I am currently a senior undergraduate at the University of Utah studying Marketing and Real Estate. During the previous 2023-34 academic year, I worked as a student associate at Ivory Innovations. I had such an excellent experience participating that I am returning this year as a Senior Associate. I am thrilled to continue working towards finding and implementing affordable housing solutions and collaborating with such a well-rounded team for an additional year.

Throughout my time at Ivory Innovations, I’ve had the privilege to connect with many outstanding organizations, one of them being Roam! Roam is an innovative assumable mortgage company tackling the housing affordability crisis, an issue I’ve become truly passionate about. With mortgage rates and home costs rising Roam offers a vital solution by streamlining the assumable mortgage process—a powerful yet underutilized tool in the housing market.

A Dynamic Internship Experience at Roam

Handling Daily Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams

During my time at Roam as a Marketing and Operations Intern, I had the unique opportunity to assist in designing marketing collateral, facilitating real estate agent marketing collateral requests, agent/broker outreach, and collaborate with the marketing and operations teams. The Roam team’s guidance, support, and teamwork made this such a rewarding experience.

Embracing the Learning Opportunities in a Startup

Additionally, working with a startup company in its first year of operating allowed me a unique perspective on the hard work required to establish a successful brand and company. Working with a startup taught me how to adapt to change quickly, effectively collaborate with all teams within the company, and always be prepared to learn something new each day.

Reflecting on Opportunities Through Ivory Innovations and Roam

Overall, I’d like to give a special thanks to Ivory Innovations for connecting me with such an incredible learning opportunity and the excellent team at Roam for allowing me to experience firsthand a company that is making (and going to continue to make) a huge difference in housing affordability for Americans. I can easily say that this summer was a success, and I learned skills I will apply for the rest of my career.
