Erika’s Background and Interests

My name is Erika Jensen and I am a junior at the University of Utah. I have lived in Utah ever since I was little, and I love the surrounding nature and the outdoor opportunities it provides. In my free time, I enjoy running and hiking.

Capsule’s Prefabricated Offsite Construction Approach

This summer, Ivory Innovations gave me the opportunity to work with Capsule, an off-site construction firm based in Anaheim, California. Capsule designs and manufactures prefabricated modular spaces for residential, workplace, and hospitality purposes.

Contributing to Real-Word Construction Projects and Operations

Working with Capsule enabled me to gain experience in the field of construction, which is unique in the sense that it has particularly tangible impacts. As an intern, I assisted with customer research, data interpretation, and creating procurement schedules. My work helped support Capsule’s day-to-day operations. I found it especially exciting to contribute to real-world projects.

Valuable Takeaways from Summer Internship at Capsule

My summer with Capsule was highly valuable and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to work with such a great team. I further developed my hands-on skills and grew as a team member. I learned the importance of adaptability because in a quick-paced environment like construction, it is vital to be receptive to new demands and unexpected changes. I was also fortunate enough to observe company meetings between Capsule and its clients, displaying the importance of clear communication, as well as illustrating that construction projects can create meaningful change within communities.
